The IT department is responsible for managing the district's information resources, including secure computer and communications networks, databases, and applications that link employees, processes, and facilities to information required to fulfill the district's mission. The highly-reliable IT systems and information management programs maintained by the IT department save district ratepayers millions of dollars each year through automation and ensure the reliability, quality, efficiency, and safety of the water and services EID provides.
Information Technology Director Tim Ranstrom joined EID in February of 2009. Tim has over 25 years of IT management experience in positions of increasing responsibility, including nine years with Health Net and 18 years with Verizon (formerly GTE). Throughout his career, Tim has lead high-performing IT teams delivering reliable and efficient solutions to solve business needs in the public and private sectors.
Tim is strongly committed to continuous learning to keep current on ever-evolving information technologies, business practices, and management strategies. Prior to starting his professional IT career, he studied biology at California State University, Northridge.
Tim and his wife Shari have been residents of El Dorado County since 1990 and have two married daughters. He has a history of community service for the youth of the county, including serving on prior boards of the Campfire Boys and Girls and Future Farmers of America, and is a past president of the Foothill Girls Softball League.
