The U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday, October 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Prescription Take Back Day serves as a reminder that wastewater treatment plants are not designed to remove medications. When chemicals are disposed of in sinks and toilets they can reach the environment unintentionally. EID encourages its customers to dispose of unused/expired medications appropriately to prevent the abuse and theft of unused medications, and also to help support the health of our waterways, environment, and community.

It's now easier than ever to properly dispose of unused medications. Medication disposal boxes have been disbursed throughout states/counties/cities. To find the nearest drop box location use the online search webpages of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA),  Earth911, or the California Department of Consumer Affairs Board of Pharmacy.

The El Dorado Disposal and the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Property Division also have disposal boxes.

For more information and resources, visit EID's Disposing of Unused or Expired Medications webpage.
