The District maintains over 88 miles of water transmission lines, ranging in size from 16 to 72 inches in diameter. These pipes convey source and treated water to our customers across our 220-square-mile service area. The majority of the lines are located outside of roadways—and some are in steep and densely wooded terrain. Significant portions of the rights-of-way have become overgrown with vegetation and are in need of maintenance to facilitate access to inspection, maintenance, and repair. This maintenance will help staff reduce the duration and size of service impacts to customers when repairs are necessary.
The District is working to improve protection and maintenance of these key water supply arteries to be able to deliver safe, clean, and reliable water to our customers. Therefore, the District has established a new three-person crew dedicated to addressing the current vegetation conditions and restoring a regular maintenance program for these lines going forward. In recent years the District has been unable to consistently maintain the vegetation growing within the rights-of-way, but a dedicated crew will allow the District to improve its efforts to maintain access to this important water infrastructure.
Please note, crews will be working across multiple geographic areas as we work with our neighbors to coordinate access and schedule needs. Click on the image above, or here, to read frequently asked questions about the program.
