Lake Aloha is part of El Dorado Irrigation District's hydroelectric Project 184. It is remotely situated within the Desolation Wilderness at an elevation of 8,209 feet and is approximately a six mile hike from Echo Lakes.
Lake Aloha has eleven auxiliary dams and one larger main dam. The dams are regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the State Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD).
In September 2020, hydro set up a base camp at Lake Aloha to perform repairs to multiple dam sites, these repairs took five days to complete. Necessary materials and supplies were helicoptered in. In 2004 district hydro staff made similar repairs.
At EID's regular Board meeting held on October 26, 2020, staff gave a presentation outlining the repair work that was completed. Please see the presentation and photos album below for full details.
