Protecting Infrastructure, People, and the Environment

The objective of El Dorado Irrigation District's (EID’s) Industrial Pretreatment and Pollution Prevention (IPP) Program is to control the discharge of wastewater pollutants from industrial and commercial sources in order to protect the quality of reclaimed water and biosolids, prevent interference with wastewater treatment and infrastructure, and protect worker health and safety.

To achieve this objective, EID issues wastewater discharge (sewer use) permits (WWDPs) to specific businesses and industries. These WWDPs may prescribe discharge limits and/or require operational practices specific to the facility which often includes installing and maintaining pretreatment systems which remove pollutants from wastewater prior to it entering the sewer system. Applicable businesses include, but are not limited to, food service establishments, commercial printing operations, manufacturing facilities, automotive facilities, and medical and dental offices.

EID has established Administrative Regulations (AR) 6021 and 6022 in accordance with Board Policy (BP) 6010 to maintain an Industrial Pretreatment Program that complies with applicable state and federal wastewater discharge requirements and regulations.
