Sly Park Recreation Area Reopening September 9

No Significant Damage from the Caldor Fire

Post Date:09/08/2021 4:45 PM

EID is happy to announce that Sly Park Recreation Area sustained minimal damage during the Caldor Fire. The only damage was caused by a back burn operation below the dams that has necessitated the closure of the trail system in that area. Horseback riders cannot completely circle the lake due to the trail closure.

Other than that, the park is in untouched. Therefore, in light of the recent downgrades of the fire evacuation orders, Sly Park Recreation Area will reopen to the public for day use on Thursday, September 9 at 7:30 am, and for camping on Friday, September 10, with the following restrictions in place: NO WOOD OR CHARCOAL FIRES PERMITTED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Propane BBQ’s and fire rings are permissible. Boat speed limit remains at 15mph.

Please be advised, there are still USFS forest closures in effect in Northern California along with road closures in some areas of the Caldor Fire.
